Selection – the Purchase Experience

Dr. Jim Shaughnessy, who is Chief of the VA Hospital Dental Clinic, and his wife Karen have relied on The Door Store and Windows for quality doors and windows – twice. The first time was in 2004 when they selected The Door Store & Windows to install windows and a door in a new room addition in their home near Seneca Park. The second time, in May 2010, they had been so pleased with The Door Store and Windows’s previous work on the room addition that they went back to The Door Store and Windows to install 22 new  replacement windows throughout the original part of the house.

Demanding career, working mom, devoted wife, entrepreneur and when fortune smiles on her…just one of the girls attending a much needed GNO; these are the many facets that comprise the life of Jill Howell-Berg, M.D. . Each situation, venue, and audience requires its own look, wardrobe and feeling of empowerment. This is what would allow her to communicate her best attributes and strengths in seconds.  Never again would she dawdle in the mirror speculating if this is the right look or and settle on a look that at its best is mundane.

New Interior Design Challenges

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

By Shane Pearson, Co-Owner, Dwellings

The emerging trend in design is perhaps the most interesting for some time.  For the last decade our homes have been designed for external validation.  A booming property market and a general culture of conformist consumption have driven us to limit our choices to the lowest common denominator.  Encouraged to make design choices which could be easily referenced and said as little as possible about us, we forget the emotional connection required to turn a house into a home.

Adding Home Value: A Window of Opportunity When the Market Sags

By Ann Gregory & Laurie Scarborough, Co-Owners, The Door Store and Windows, Louisville, KY

When a sick economy takes a sudden turn for the worse, as it did in the 2008-2009 recession, your investments can take a long time to recover. Experts may know how the market went bad, but they don’t have a quick cure.

Your home is traditionally among the most secure assets in your portfolio. But it, too, has probably lost value in recent years. Could physical therapy help improve your financial picture? You might be surprised at the answer to that question. In some cases it’s a very big “yes.”

What Better Way to Escape the Winter Blahs than a Vacation to the Beach

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

When Dr. Kim Westermann and her husband Bart Doerhoefer want rest and relaxation, their favorite vacation destination is the Westin St. John Resort and Villas in the US Virgin Islands. They have been taking family and friends there for the last seven years, and really enjoy the laid back atmosphere, beautiful beaches and fabulous restaurants.

“The best Derby Party we ever attended was at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay” Kim said. “A Georgetown, Kentucky couple owns the restaurant/bar. They import real Derby glasses and memorabilia, cook up traditional Kentucky Derby Party food and drinks. They have jackpots and horse betting. The locals come with their beach hats, decorated with bougainvillea, instead of roses! We didn’t win any money, but had a great time!”
